Tikim70: Morihachi Yakiniku (Causeway Bay, Hong Kong)

I love everything about yakiniku! In fact, I always order Yakiniku beef sets at Japanese restaurants so when my friend from Hong Kong brought me to Morihachi Yakiniku place as a welcome dinner; I was delighted! I had an early dinner with my mom and this was my 2nd dinner. I actually planned on eating little but ended up a lot more than I planned because it was that good!  In all fairness, nothing in Manila tasted the same with Morihachi Yakiniku.
A hidden gem, Morihachi Yakiniku!
The ambiance also is really nice. Very earthy with lots of wooden interiors to set a zen mood. Oh insider tip: when you eat before 6:30 and after 9:30 you get 20% tota food discount! But if you are eating dinner at the usual time, better make reservations!
Earthy Ambiance
Wood and Simple
Excited to show you what we ordered:
This is the house specialty, Wagyu beef that's so marble-y and tasty! The restaurant didnt put any marinate aside from salt and it's just heaven to taste! If you want to add more flavor, you just dip it with the sauces provided (I like to middle one!); any of the sauce provided does enhance flavor, the mildest flavor is the rocksalt water dip while the strongest one is the barbecue sauce on the left.

Amin, cooked for the girls!
Bbq sauce, Lemon Sauce, and Rocksalt Water Dip
Also ordered other meat like pork and chicken! The marinates are really different. The fresh taste of the marinate gives a contrast with the heavy taste of barbecue.
Pork belly In salty lime sauce HKD63.00
The chicken with fresh basil sauce is my next favorite to the Blackmore Wagyu beef because again, marinate was so unique! ended up eating half of this and dipped it in the lime sauce in the middle.
Chicken with Fresh Italian basil sauce HKD59.00
For rice, my friend Rain, ordered Wagyu fried rice because it reminds me of the fried rice I ordered for her when she visited me back in March 2012.

For our drinks, me and Rain ordered healthy Valois plus drinks. I am not sure what this is but it tasted like juice + soda water.

Peach Plus HKD35.00
Kyoto Grape Plus HKD35.00
I forgot to take down the name of this drink but it's a cocktail, and I remember a hint of alcohol taste in it (soju).

 Happy friends!

I am really thankful for this welcome dinner, the food isn't cheap but it surely is special and again, unique and yummy! I super love it! A first time for me to give a perfect grade for a foreign restaurant outside Philippines!

Tikim67: Don't miss the Local Streetfood in Hong Kong

When you are already in Hong Kong, don't forget to snack on some authentic local street food! You can just find them anyway but I ate mine in 2-3 stalls in Causeway Bay. Here is my list of what streetfood to eat!

1.Siumai, these are fish dumplings and they cost HKD12.00 for about a dozen. If you are a spice fan then go for the spicy sauce, I have to drink yakult after because it's too spicy for me but I like it!
Siumai
That's the spicy sauce
2. Hong Kong egg pancakes are round that looks like a flat beehive. It has a crunchy skin and soft bread when you bite on to it. I didn't know that they now offer chocolate and mocha flavored pancakes! I got the half chocolate-original. This snack costs HKD12.00.
check out the various flavors
Best eaten when warm
3. I also tried the their version of a waffle. I like it because they put some peanut butter filling and some sort of syrup that makes the waffle tastes crunchy and sweet! I bet peanut butter sandwich fans will love eating this! Also, this snack costs HKD12.00
Sorry no other picture of the waffle I was too eager to eat it
4. Lastly, I tried their Takoyaki for the first time. Their octopus balls were big  and the sauce and seaweed were generous! Again, only HKD12.00!

Tikim 61:Tim Ho Wan, Best Bbq Pork Buns (Central, Hong Kong)

I was lucky that I got good friends from Hong Kong, they take me to dinner whenever I visit them and vice versa when they are here in Manila. On my recent Hong Kong trip, I asked my friend if we could eat at a local dimsum place because I haven't eaten dimsum (yam cha) since I arrive in Hong Kong. Super happy that she brought me to Tim Ho Wan!
Tin Ho Ma, Central Branch
You know the saying "It's worth the wait?" Expect a line when you arrive at the restaurant because a lot of locals and foreigners really flock to Tim Ho Wan to eat some dimsum.
Best Bbq Pork Buns I've tasted so Far!
I am not a fan of pork buns but this changed my opinion! This pork bun is also the reason why my friend brought me to this restaurant; the pork bun gained the restaurant 1 Michelin star and it's the only Chinese restaurant to have a Michelin star. This is a must order! I even took home some pork buns before flying back to Manila.
Spring Roll
Their spring roll is not the usual ones you eat at Chinese restaurants here in Manila. Their spring roll is made from sautéed vegetables which I like and it's the healthier option.
Turnip Cake
They cook their turnip cake (known as raddish cake in Philippines) traditionally.
Shrimp Rice Roll
You add light soy sauce or Worcester sauce to your liking.
Beancurd with meat inside
The only thing I didn't like was the beancurd with meat inside just because Im not a tofu fan :)

When you are passing by Hong Kong make sure you get some of Tin Ho Ma's barbecue pork buns! Just thinking about it makes me hungry! Tim Ho Wan is definitely a must stop for meals!

Tikim10: Eat Fresh Hong Kong Famous Street Food (Banawe, Quezon City)

Hong Kong, as known by many is a shopping mecca but for me its also a food haven. Various cuisines from big restaurants to fast food stalls tastes great; food tripping is actually just around the corner! Whenever I go to Hong Kong, I always make sure that I eat their street food ~ siumai, hotdogs, takoyaki, egg waffles, fresh fruit shakes, and what not! Fret no more, Eat Fresh offers authentic Hong Kong street food in Manila!

Outside the Eat Fresh restaurant

As their specialty is Street Food, one might have the impression that you will be eating your stick snacks out in the heat/rains. This is not the case in their Banawe branch because you will be eating you're well missed Hong Kong street food at the comfort of an airconditioned restaurant. ^.^ Their kitchen is placed in front of the restaurant, where a passerby can take out food with no hassle and a customer who will dine in will have the comforts of not eating while standing.

Ordering in Eat Fresh is very tempting because the price is very affordable (student friendly prices)! Seeing those familiar street food names will make you feel you want to try them all! Evan and I, ordered the following for starters: Fried Stuffed Tofu, Fish Balls dipped in curry, and Fish Tofu dipped in curry.

You will have the choice of having your street food fried, dipped in curry (to add spice), or both. I like spicy food so I dipped mine in curry sauce. If you are not that adventurous, you can still opt for the traditional soy sauce with chili garlic or none!

For those who want to try Hong Kong dimsum, Eat Fresh also serves 5 varieties of dimsum all at P48.00 only--- Pork Siomai, Taosi Spareribs, Chicken Feet, Raddish Cake, and Kuchay Dumplings.

Pork Siomai
For our main course, we definitely wanted to try the claypot rice meal. I like this very much because food is served warm. The claypot rice comes with a special sweet sauce that makes the meal feel like its a big fried rice. The serving is quite generous for one person, it will surely make you feel full!

Lastly for our drinks and dessert, we went for the pancake balls (called kai-tan-zai or egg waflfles in Hong Kong), almond shake, and milk tea (nai-cha in Hong Kong). The pancake balls took a while to cook but it is all good --- it was a favorite!

Tikim1: Watami, Mongkok, HK

On my recent trip to Hong Kong I was able to satisfy my tastebuds and my hungry stomach!
It's very funny that even if we did a lot of walking, my companions and i gained a bit of a weight!

On our very first dinner, which is a "wash dust" affair (welcoming dinner by my friend Rainnis), the dinner gave me a sneak peek of what is more to come! We ate at Watami, and ordered the following dishes..see and you might get hungry..Yummm:)

Mochi Cheese Gratin: Good to eat when hot coz' it will be very sticky when it's left to be cold

Okonomiyaki: the fish flakes tastes better for some reason :)

Gyoza on a Hot Pan: Gyoza's should be served in hot plates!
Hamburg Meatball with Egg on Hot Pan: this is my FAVE :D:D:D:D:D A must try!

Garlic Seafood Rice Stone Pot: A different take on Korean Bibimbap

Pepper Beef Rice in Stone Pot: Reminds me of Pepperlunch, coz' you'll be cooking the meat
If you will be in Hong Kong, make sure to try this restaurant! It's a relaxing environment where you can eat great food and be with great company

Verdict: 5/5
